Case Study 1: IFRS Conversion and IPO Project Management
We helped a client with its first-time conversion from US GAAP to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). In addition to the IFRS conversion, they were planning an initial public offering (IPO). Based on the information requested from the external auditors, we created a project plan that included key deliverables, responsible owners, milestones, and deadlines. We managed the project through coordination with internal and external resources. We interfaced directly with the external auditors to resolve issues and answer questions so that the process moved forward while management focused on growing the business. During this process, we provided management with formal project updates at least weekly and ensured ongoing communication throughout the project. Status updates occurred more frequently as issues arose. We supervised the team as they prepared audit schedules and analyses. As the client team completed each deliverable, we performed a detailed review to ensure accuracy and completeness. Beyond the basic math and data compilation, we reviewed the financial statements and other documents for compliance with accounting literature. For items that required more judgment, we summarized the results from our review and provide recommendations to management on next steps.
Case Study 2: IT System Implementation
We had a client with significant international operations that was exploring ways to implement systems to automate processes for future growth. Our team of Mandarin speakers, along with the client's IT expert, traveled to China to assist with this system implementation. Our local language skills, combined with our strong business process and auditing knowledge, resulted in an accurate understanding of the existing processes and operational challenges. We were able to identify inefficiencies and propose ways to streamline the process.
Case Study 3: Financial Statement Audit Preparation and Assistance
In another instance, we had a client with a great product and growth potential. They started out selling hardware and later developed a cool software to go with it. This evolved them into a software company. Then, they added on a service and became a service company selling hardware, software, and hosting services. They wanted to go public, but their accounting practices and procedures were still geared for the hardware business. We came in, learned about their business model, and researched the appropriate accounting treatment for their circumstances. We helped them restate their historical revenue and financial statements to comply with current accounting literature. We prepared schedules that the external auditors requested to support their financial statement audits.
Case Study 4: Accounting and System Integration
In another case, a client that had recently completed an acquisition needed assistance with integrating revenue reporting. Ultimately, we created an online repository of revenue data, which allowed the company's professional services personnel to enter real-time data about ongoing fieldwork. This intense, 6-week effort involved constant communication and collaboration with the client's Finance and Accounting management as well as their Information Technology team.
